Coaching Education

LSSC welcomes beginning coaches at all levels and offers a variety of resources to help you develop your coaching skills.

Club Sessions: The club will once again utilize the UK International coach and player development program for all Rocket coaches. In addition, we're teaming up this year with coaches from UK International to provide a series of clinics for both players and coaches in August. We will be sending out more details about these sessions soon.

Online Resources: Age-specific Player Development Guides and training videos are also posted on our site under Coaches Corner. In addition to the training sessions and Player Guides there are many resources online for youth soccer coaches. Here's some great places to get started.

National Licenses: Washington Youth Soccer offers a coaching education program aligned with the US Soccer curriculum. These courses are designed to help you understand the characteristics and needs of the youth athlete and plan age-appropriate training sessions and game strategies. LSSC encourages all coaches to pursue education through WYS and has some limited funding available to reimburse course registration fees for those who obtain their grassroots licenses and are registered to coach a LSSC team during the Fall 2019 session.

The grassroots program offers a brief/free online introductory course and both in-person and online courses for 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11 groups. Fees for the in-person courses are set by the club delivering the training, online courses are currently $25 each.

For a list of upcoming in-person course dates in Washington click HERE.

For a description of the A through D license courses offered by WYS click HERE.

To register for the online courses go to https://dcc.ussoccer.com/courses , select the "Grassroots Courses" dropdown on the left, select the "Online Courses" dropdown, then select the level of course you would like to take.

If you are interested in attending one or more of these grassroots training sessions please contact Chet Stevenson at vpdev@lakestevenssoccer.com prior to registering to ensure funds are still available.

Finally, if you don't feel ready to take on the role of head coach, ask your team's coach if he/she needs an Assistant Coach. This is a great way to get started as a youth soccer coach.
